Gary Caldwell first joined Hibernian on loan from Newcastle United making 11 appearances during a short stay. He finally signed at Easter Road on a permanent contract in 2004.

Whilst at Newcastle he was also loaned out to Darlington, Coventry City and Derby County before he finally signed with Hibernian on a permanent contract in 2004.
Comfortable in both midfield and central defence Caldwell won many accolades for his performances in some of Celtic's Champions' League campaigns, but his most memorable moment came in a Scotland jersey, scoring against France in a 1-0 defeat of the former World and European champions at Hampden Park.
