Gordon Smith
Gordon Smith is generally regarded as Hibernian's greatest ever player. Signed as a 16 year old from Dundee North End in 1941 he gave the club 18 seasons of distinguished and loyal service before leaving to join Edinburgh rivals Hearts in 1959.
A member of the legendary Famous Five forward line which terrorised defences throughout the country for many years, in over 700 appearances wearing the famous green and white jersey he scored 364 goals in all games, mostly from the outside right position, making him the most prolific marksman in the history of the Club. Selected for Scotland at full international level on 18 occasions, he captained his country twice against Austria and Hungary in 1955, scoring on both occasions.
At Easter Road he would collect three league championship medals, before creating his own piece of football history by winning others with Hearts in 1960 and Dundee in 1962.
After brief service with Irish club Drumcondra, he retired from the game in 1964 aged almost 40 to concentrate on his business interests. He died in 2002.
