Hibernian Historical Trust

Since its formation in the Cowgate area of Edinburgh in 1875, Hibernian Football Club has been at the forefront of the Scottish game, often leading the way in many of its developments: European football; floodlights; undersoil heating; to name a few. There is no doubt whatsoever, a rich seam of tradition, heritage and drama has coursed through the veins of the club since its humble beginnings in St Mary's Street.

From the early days Hibs were a team of the people. Formed not only as a means of exercising young men's energy but also as a way of raising much needed revenue to satisfy the needs of the poor, both in their own district of Edinburgh and throughout the entire country. Theirs was a cause eventually copied by many others.

The Hibernian Historical Trust is a proactive initiative by both supporters and the Club to protect, preserve and promote the great heritage of Hibernian. Formed by a group of supporters, the legally recognised Trust has been created totally independently from the Football Club but with the full backing of the Board.

Hibernian Football Club has donated its entire and considerable collection of artefacts and memorabilia to the Trust and, as part of its ongoing aims, the Trust is always keen to obtain Hibernian-related items, either on a permanent basis or on loan. Individuals in possession of items of interest are encouraged to contact the Trust.
