1906 Scottish International Cap
The Trust recently purchased, at auction, a Scottish International Cap presented to Hibernian player George Stewart in recognition of his appearance in the 2-0 defeat by Wales at Tynecastle in March 1906; the first of four caps won by the player.
Outside right Stewart was signed by the Club from Strathclyde at the start of the 1902-03 campaign and went on to win a League Championship medal at the end of the season. Stewart won two caps while a Hibs player, both in 1906, his second appearance coming in a 2-1 victory against England at Hampden in April. The game was watched by the first crowd to exceed 100,000 in British, if not world, international football.
He joined Manchester City at the start of the following season, winning a further 2 caps with the English club before ending his professional career at Partick Thistle in 1912.
